Prologue of the Program

The aim of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is to endorse and uphold cooperation among engineers and scientists for the progression and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics and allied fields and their practical applications. To promote interaction among Geotechnical engineers of the North Eastern Region, local chapter of the Geotechnical Society “IGS Guwahati Chapter (NE)” was established in 2005. This chapter provides a common forum for academicians, researchers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and others interested in Geotechnical activities. To build capability at all levels including at the student level, NIT Agartala in collaboration with IGS Guwahati Chapter (NE) organizing an one day Geocongress on “Advances in Geotechnical Engineering”. The Geo-congress invites contributing papers from students/practitioners of Civil Engineering or interested in geotechnical engineering related problems. Thus, it provides a common platform to North East students/practitioners, so that they can share their academic/research activities and also to express and exchange their ideas.

about NIT Agartala

National Institute of Technology Agartala (erstwhile Tripura Engineering College) was established in 2006. This institute offers nine four-year undergraduate programs which all lead to a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree. Post graduate Master's of Technology (M.Tech) courses in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, and Mechanical engineering are offered. From July 2013, dual-degree courses in Engineering Physics and a five-year integrated course in Applied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have also been started. NITA is the second NIT in India (after National Institute of Technology Calicut), and sixth among all NITs and IITs to start a program in Engineering Physics. PhD and post-doctorate fellowships are offered by many departments. NIT Agartala also offers MBA, MCA and CDAC programme. NIT-Agartala is ranked tenth among thirty NITs. The Institute is 4 km off National Highway (NH-44) and about 24 km away from the capital city, Agartala. The nearest rail station is Jirania which is about 2 km away. Several airlines connect Agartala to Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Mumbai directly.

The attendees can submit paper on any of the following themes.

  • In-situ and laboratory testing in geotechnical engineering.
  • Foundation design and analysis.
  • Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering
  • Innovations in ground improvement
  • Retaining wall and geosynthetic sand fiber reinforced soil.
  • Investigations in geotechnical and geological engineering
  • Remote sensing and GIS applications in geotechnical engineering
